CHI

Square

My class project for Human Computer Interaction and was submitted as a Work in Progress for CHI 2012.

The project requirement was to design and implement a combination of hardware and software that used an unconventional interface. My unconventional interface was to use a physical representative, in this case water, to represent the amount of data that is stored in a folder. Using a C# application that monitors a folder on the computer a pitcher controlled by an Arduino would be filled with water representing the amount of room left in the file. This amount of room was a set value inside of the C# code since testing was conducted by downloading files to the set directory.

However the end goal was for this to be a prototype for a full size aquarium that would fill and empty based on the percentage of space remaining on a computer’s hard drive.
